Kelsey Wulf is a Minnesota-based author and rural writer whose work explores homesteading, food, farming, and the traditions that connect people to the land. She is the creator of the blog and YouTube channel, Rough and Tumble Farmhouse as well as the host of the Family Milk Cow Podcast. Her newest book, The Homesteader’s Dairy Cow Handbook, is due for release with Lyons Press in October 2027.

With a degree in Communication Studies and several years spent as a reference/youth services librarian, Kelsey writes about homesteading through a practical, research-based lens rooted in real experience. She also served with AmeriCorps in urban community gardens and Habitat for Humanity, coordinated Master Gardener volunteers, and worked as a 4-H youth educator. She spent several years working on a variety of small farms including grass based cow and goat dairies, a sheep farm, and an organic vegetable CSA. These experiences continue to shape her writing.

Today, Kelsey and her family live on a small farm in rural Minnesota, where they raise family milk cows chickens, ducks, and a busy family alongside gardens, and seasonal projects. Through her books, articles, and online work, she hopes to make traditional skills more approachable while encouraging readers to build confidence in the kitchen, the garden, and the barn.

Kelsey’s life passion is working to support thriving, regenerative, local food systems. As part of this, she writes a monthly gardening column for regional newspapers, is an active member of the Sustainable Farming Association, Women in Conservation, and serves on the board of her county’s Farmers Union.

When she isn’t writing or enjoying the small farm life, you’ll find her enjoying time at the lake or around a campfire with her family.
